Canadian Report on Children Using Cell Phones and the Link to Brain Cancer.

This report comes from a Canadian news article about cell phones and the risks of brain cancer to children.

After watching any of these videos on this site please remember our Feb. 27, 2009 post with the video from Chris Zambounis of EMC Technologies. This post shows you how using a hands free (Bluetooth or wired head set) can be worse than putting the phone to your head.

Brain Cancer and the Risks to Our Children

I thought this report was well done. It shows how countries around the world look to protect and inform the public about the risks and hazards of radiation poisoning from cell phone usage.

Scientists Urge Legislators to Research Dangers of Cell Phone Use and Cancer

David Carpenter, director of the Institute of Health and Environment at the University of Albany, has told legislators that the need for further research into the safety of cell phones is needed.

Carpenter, along with Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, have suggested that cell phones "need a precautionary message."

Carpenter questioned, "Are we at the same place we were with smoking and lung cancer 30 years ago?" It took many years before researchers were able to declare conclusively that cigarettes cause lung cancer.

Radio frequencies and radiation produced by mobile phones are especially hazardous to young children. The younger a child is, the more cell phone radiation penetrates the brain.

Research published recently from the Royal Society in London discovered that children and teens who start using cell phones before the age of 20 had 5 times the risk of developing brain cancer by the age of 29.

Most researchers say that evidence is inconclusive, and that they cannot declare that cell phones pose any danger or health risk.

Despite this, numerous countries advise parents not to allow their children to talk on cell phones and to limit cell phone usage.

Study Shows Teenagers With High Cell Phone Usage Can't Sleep

A study presented at the Associated Professional Sleep Societies annual meeting in Baltimore this month has shown that teens who are stuck on their cell phones have difficulty sleeping at night.

This information, released from a Swedish study found that young people who spend a lot of time on their cell phone are characterized by higher stress, fatigue, and tend to be sleep deprived. The research showed a very strong correlation between mobile phone usage and sleep difficulties.

New Danish Study on the Effects of Cell Phones on Pregnant Women and Their Fetuses

A joint U.S.–Danish team has reported that young children born to mothers who had used cell phones during pregnancy were more likely to have behavioral disorders, such as hyperactivity and emotional problems.

Using a phone as little as two or three times a day during pregnancy was enough to trigger behavioral issues. The incidence was up to 80% higher among those children who had also used cell phones by the age of seven. The survey, carried out in 2005-06, found that 30% of Danish seven-year-olds were already using a cell phone, though less than 1% for more than one hour a week.

These new results will appear in the July issue of Epidemiology. An electronic copy of the paper has already been posted on the Internet.

French Government Advises Children Should Avoid Using Cell Phones

In the first explicit advice of its kind in the Western world, the French government said children should not spend more than six minutes talking on a mobile phone. An accompanying television broadcast demonstrated how far radiation from the phones is able to penetrate into the brain.

This unprecedented move has prompted Welsh experts to now call for the international guidelines on mobile phone exposure to be revised downward.

An emergency conference by Coghill Research Laboratories, of Pontypool, last year presented evidence from scientists around the world that excessive long-term mobile phone use could result in brain tumours and other disturbances of the body’s vital processes.

Studies have suggested that up to one in 10 children under the age of 16 spends 45 minutes a day talking on mobile phones and it is estimated that up to 90% of under 16s own a mobile phone.
