Scientists Urge Legislators to Research Dangers of Cell Phone Use and Cancer

David Carpenter, director of the Institute of Health and Environment at the University of Albany, has told legislators that the need for further research into the safety of cell phones is needed.

Carpenter, along with Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, have suggested that cell phones "need a precautionary message."

Carpenter questioned, "Are we at the same place we were with smoking and lung cancer 30 years ago?" It took many years before researchers were able to declare conclusively that cigarettes cause lung cancer.

Radio frequencies and radiation produced by mobile phones are especially hazardous to young children. The younger a child is, the more cell phone radiation penetrates the brain.

Research published recently from the Royal Society in London discovered that children and teens who start using cell phones before the age of 20 had 5 times the risk of developing brain cancer by the age of 29.

Most researchers say that evidence is inconclusive, and that they cannot declare that cell phones pose any danger or health risk.

Despite this, numerous countries advise parents not to allow their children to talk on cell phones and to limit cell phone usage.

Health Minister in India Requests Study on Ill-Effects of Cell Phones

After reflecting on studies by Australian neurosurgeon Dr Vini Khurana, officials in India have decided to launch their own cell phone study.

In his research, Khurana says heavy usage of cell phones for a period of 10 years or more doubles the chances of brain tumour. It also, he adds, has larger public health ramification than asbestos and smoking.

Meanwhile, Dr Rajeev Ranjan, a neurology expert at Sir Gangaram Hospital, says, “EMR rays in general cause irritation, concentration lapses and in many cases even proliferation of cells which cause cancer.” Particularly at risk, he says, are those with pacemakers which the EMR can interfere with.

Dr Anshu Rohatgi, another Delhi neurologist, says, “Electro magnetic radiations, in general, affect the DNA and cause problems in cell recovery and cell growth.”

Electromagnetic Radiation Expert Says Cell Phones Cause Headaches, Nausea, Dizziness, Alzheimer's and Cancer

Dr. Graham Blackwell, a British based independent consultant in telecommunication health issues has spoken out in a newly published article in the Irish Times.

The doctor states that health risks from the type of radiation emitted from cell phones include "headaches, nausea, dizziness, an increased risk of Alzheimer's and even cancer."

According to Dr. Blackwell, the safety standards for cell phones and wireless equipment are based on thermal (heat) radiation. There are several new medical studies that show that the health hazards of cell phones and other wireless technology are subthermal and not due to heat radiation.

Dr. Blackwell says that there is an urgent need to research different frequencies which would not affect human cells.
