The Specific Absorbtion Rate (SAR) is the standard used to measure how safe a cellular phone for your body. SAR measures heating or thermal radiation. In other words, how hot your mobile phone gets while you are talking on it.
These limits are only for non-ionizing radiation like heat, and do not take into account ionizing radiation levels such as those from electromagnetic fields (EMF), power frequencies (ELF), and radiofrequencies (RF).
Blood tests and studies of DNA have shown that emf such as that emitted from mobile phones causes DNA damage. This cellular damage can result in varieties of health problems including stress, headaches, tension, sleep disorders and even cancer.
SAR, the safety standard assumes that EMF causes biological damage only by heating,
but cell damage occurs in the absence of heating and well below the safety limits. It is high time that the government reexamine their safety standards for wireless phones and do something to protect the health of the public.

Health Minister in India Requests Study on Ill-Effects of Cell Phones
After reflecting on studies by Australian neurosurgeon Dr Vini Khurana, officials in India have decided to launch their own cell phone study.
In his research, Khurana says heavy usage of cell phones for a period of 10 years or more doubles the chances of brain tumour. It also, he adds, has larger public health ramification than asbestos and smoking.
Meanwhile, Dr Rajeev Ranjan, a neurology expert at Sir Gangaram Hospital, says, “EMR rays in general cause irritation, concentration lapses and in many cases even proliferation of cells which cause cancer.” Particularly at risk, he says, are those with pacemakers which the EMR can interfere with.
Dr Anshu Rohatgi, another Delhi neurologist, says, “Electro magnetic radiations, in general, affect the DNA and cause problems in cell recovery and cell growth.”

Changes to Your Blood Chemistry Occur When You Use Your Cell Phone
Did you know that changes in your blood chemistry occur rapidly when you talk on your cell phone? After as little as 5 minutes of exposure to cell phone radiation and emf your blood cells begin to take on what is called Rouleau formations. This is when your blood cells stack up and clump, causing worm-like patterns.
Rouleau formations are known to correspond with symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and poor blood circulation. This happens because the ability of red blood cells to carry oxygen is impaired.

Effects of Cell Phone Radiation on Children
Children are especially susceptible to the effects of cell phone radiation, and are put at serious risk from the radiation emitted by mobile phones.
According to a 1996 study by Om Gandhi at the University of Utah, radiation penetrates the brain of a child 4.2 times faster than an adult brain. It penetrates the fluid of the eye more than 12 times faster. It penetrates the lens of the eye 11.6 times faster. It penetrates the connective tissue of the eye 11.1 times faster.
Further, scientists have discovered that a call lasting just two minutes can alter the natural electrical activity of a child’s brain for up to an hour afterwards. Radio waves from mobile phones penetrate deep into a child’s brain, not just into the ear.
The soft, developing tissues of a child’s head leave them unprotected, making doctors fearful that disturbed brain activity could lead to psychiatric and behavioral problems and impair learning ability.

Don't Use Your Cell Phone in Rural Areas
Cell phones are more dangerous when you are in rural areas. When you are out in the country there are fewer cell towers or cell sites. This means that your cell phone must work harder to send and receive a signal, which means it emits more of the dangerous radiofrequency (RF) radiation that contributes to cancer and other diseases.
Always try to check your cell phone before you make a call. Make sure that the signal on your phone is strong. You can tell by visually looking at your phone and seeing how many bars of reception it has. If there are only one or two bars, try to avoid talking on your phone in that location.

Cell Phone Radiation Alters Protein in Human Skin
HELSINKI, Finland - Research in Finland indicates that protein in human cells is altered when subjected to cellphone radiation, but the health effects of such radiation remain unclear.
The Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority subjected a small area of skin on the forearms of 10 female volunteers to cellphone radiation - otherwise known as radio frequency modulated electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) - for one hour.
The report found that biopsies from exposed skin showed alterations not seen in similar biopsies on non-exposed skin.
The study, published Monday in the online journal BMC Genomics, said that analysis of 580 proteins identified eight proteins that were affected.
The agency claimed it was the first study showing that "molecular level changes might take place in human volunteers in response to exposure to RF-EMF," describing it as "globally unique."
The agency said it plans a more extensive study in 2009, with 50 to 100 volunteers.

Using a Headset for your Cell Phone Could be Worse for Your Health
According to research done by Dr. George Carlo, wearing a handsfree headset that has a wire could be worse than just talking normally on your cell phone. This is because it can sometimes act as an antenna, or receiver, for electromagnetic energy fields and radiofrequencies that are floating in the environment. The wire then receives this radiation and directs it toward your head, making a protective device even more dangerous.
Bluetooth devices can likewise be dangerous, and still bring radiation energy to the head and ear.
The safest alternative is to use an airtube headset. Also, equipping any headset with ferrite beads can prevent the transmittal of radiation. An airtube headset with ferrite beads is probably the safest handsfree device available.
